A really big idea

Shortly after 911 I came up with an interesting idea that might make tall building much safer. Towers should be tethered together on the corners using steel cables that could serve as an escape route off the roof of a burning building. The idea is if you can't get down then go up to the roof and cable car it across the street to the nearest lower roof where a trained person meets you to get you unhooked. The harness could be made from a strong disposable plastic designed for a one time emergency use and stored on the roof where a trained employee dispatches the individual people in an orderly manner. Other possible advantages to such a city web could be during earth quakes to stabilize the tops of the towers or perhaps lighting them up to create a glow over the whole city. Anyway it is my biggest crazy idea to date and I hope somebody tries it some day.
